Now reflect on your opinions from the first step of this activity (1. Aliens in Sci-Fi). Have your expectations regarding aliens and life in the Universe changed? How so?

Indeed, you may not have realised it but throughout this activity, you have broadened your perspective and enriched your reasoning by:

  • Looking DOWN: investigating life on Earth, its requirements, how different it can get, how it can thrive in very extreme environments where you wouldn’t have expected it

  • Looking UP: taking in the breadth of our playground, from the bodies in the Solar System like Mars or Europa, or the huge variety and number of unknown exoplanets orbiting the stars in our galaxy

  • Realising how essential interdisciplinarity is: so many different scientists working in so many different fields have to communicate and learn from each other in order to make our search for life in the Universe possible. That’s what makes Astrobiology so cool!

Congratulations, you have  thought like a professional scientist and we hoped you liked it!
