Primary PGCE Programme 2020-21
Professional Learning Agenda (PLA)
School Experience 1
Student: | IOE Supervision Tutor: |
The PLA offers you the opportunity to systematically reflect upon, analyse and develop those elements of your practice which you are finding puzzling or beyond your current understanding. The column headings below have been designed to guide this thinking process.
Each week during school experience, you will self-identify a maximum of three such elements, or Professional Learning Initiatives (PLIs), drawing on your general reflection on your practice including self-evaluations of lessons taught and/or discussions with your mentors (school and IOE). At least one of these PLIs will provide a continued focus from a previous week.
Whilst your IOE Supervision tutor will respond to your weekly entries, broadening your understanding of the classroom context, the PLA is intended to be a tool for your own critical self-reflection which will develop your ability to self-regulate your own practice.
The PLA is not assessed. However you are encouraged to use your entries when responding to Professional Learning Tasks and M Level assignments.

Date of PLI entry |
Identify a focus teaching skill and/or behaviour for critical reflection. This process should be informed by general reflection on your practice including lesson evaluations and discussions with your mentors. Consider the antecedent(s) which led you to identify this as a PLI. Be specific in your wording |
Consider the significance of the initiative for your own professional learning; as well as its impact on pupil’s learning. Make links to theory and research encountered in PGCE sessions and readings where relevant. |
Detail the strategies that you intend to introduce into your teaching repertoire as your direct responses to this PLI. Be prepared to identify and trial a number of strategies. |
Identify when these actions will be undertaken. |
Analyse in detail the effectiveness of the strategies that you have trialled. In your analysis consider the relationship between your teaching strategy and the children’s learning including the impact on the classroom environment. Frequently you will need to undertake a sequence of updates (remember to date new comments). |
Identify a standard that ‘best fits’ with this PLI. |
