Trying to source an internship can be a bit of a minefield – it’s not just about selling yourself in your application, you also have to find it in the first place! If you’re not sure where to start, or need some extra advice or guidance, have a look at these website links for some helpful information.
1. What internships are out there?
Of course there is a lot more to the world of internships than simply this list, however the UCL Careers ‘Internship’ moodle page offers an excellent list of internship schemes, projects and programmes covering a broad range of subjects within the Faculty of Life Sciences. This includes working with Cancer Research UK, L’Oréal and the European Bioinformatics Institute. This is brilliant place to start looking and gain inspiration.
2. What type of work is out there?
Again UCL Careers is to the rescue, with an extremely helpful, and detailed, information sheet walking you through where to look for internships, as well as the benefits of work experience, the types of work experience and a few tips on making the most of an experience. This also covers ideas for remote opportunities, which couldn’t be more relevant today.
3. Can I go for something that isn’t advertised?
Yes – this is something else you can do! This information sheet from UCL careers explains how to look for and approach a potential employer, and also provides tips on what to include in your application.
