This is an example of a student FAQ. Students can submit questions via the ‘Contact Us’ page. We would add these to the page as blog posts with the question as the title, and the reply as the main post.

Overcoming X issue
Under this tab, we want to have some stories written by students on how they tackled/are living with a mental health or wellbeing issue. This was something that students we spoke to wanted to see, and we feel it’s important to have access to these accounts so they know they are not alone. Again, we’d like to make this Life Sciences-specific as well as general – making sure we cover any issues that students in this faculty struggle with.
What is the best note-taking style for you?
This year has seen a massive overhaul in how we, as students, approach study and exams. As exams are now a lot less rapid-recall based, note taking and organisation have become very important for study. Each exam type (24hr, MCQ and extended) requires different preparation, and we want to provide a definitive guide for each. We also want to provide ideas about routine, and some how-to guides on finding resources, essay writing and referencing (all very broadly so as not to interfere with specifications in different departments).
We also would like to provide some downloadable resources (e.g. a to do list on Excel that highlights when you need to revisit content), ideas about places and different ways to study. Students really love to hear how other students approach these things, so in the future we will also be tackling some ‘day in the life of’ videos of different students.
A career in Genetic Counselling
Lots of students experience anxiety around life post-degree – many are unsure what to pursue after their degree and want some ideas. Posts under this tab are going to include some career profiles, ideas about work experience, applications for work experience, recounts of student experiences, ideas for further study and how to approach it, and perhaps discussions some alumni.
Genetic counselling is the checking of patient family history and medical records to help individuals (particularly parents) understand risk.
How to tackle an internship application
Students we spoke to were keen for the blog to include content that helped with sourcing and applying for internships and work experience. We hope to talk to a member of the careers team to get some ideas, but we aim to cover sourcing an internship, making the most of an internship, writing a CV, and internship alternatives.
Applying for anything is difficult, let alone that one highly competitive internship that would make your CV shine. Here, we run through some approaches to help you out.

Our favourite mindfulness resources
Students we spoke to were very keen to see some more ideas for wellbeing. We want the posts we provide here to be as uplifting as possible, so we are providing ideas covering: exercise and outdoor spaces, mindfulness/relaxation, sleep and food. These won’t just be top ten articles – we will be showing some longer blog posts with ideas on how to overcome specific issues that Life Sciences students often face, such as Imposter Syndrome.
- Calm – a fantastic app with soundscapes, sleep stories and mediations.
- Headspace – Headspace is a meditation app free with a student Spotify account.
Living in Student Halls at UCL
We want to give students (particularly prospective students and those who have just finished their first year) an insight into housing in London and the halls experience. We plan to do this in an interview style – we will ask a group of students about their experience and compile responses.
We will then provide some useful links and resources.
