UCL Resources

UCL hosts a variety of services to support your mental health and wellbeing, provided by experts, with no fee, and for all UCL students. These are welcoming and no-judgement spaces for everyone. Sometimes the amount of help out there can be overwhelming, so we have compiled these services into a compact and accessible space to signpost you to the place you’re looking for. 

NOTE: We have not listed every single service that UCL offers for each page, so we encourage you to explore the main pages linked below. We have done our best to signpost the ‘main’ services.

1. Mental Health:

UCL offers professional help to support your mental health. The main page provides information on the team supporting your mental wellbeing, as well as useful contacts. This team offers counselling as a service, and also provides options to use peer-to-peer support, or even explore external options for counselling. Furthermore, the page has compiled some online resources and advice on interrupting your studies.

2. Crisis Support

If you, or someone else, needs urgent help with your/their mental health or wellbeing, we recommend viewing the main page for links and contact details. This page includes contact details for A&E, the NHS mental health helpline, information on contacting GPs, contact details for the Samaritans, Nightline, HOPELINEUK, Maytree and CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably). These services all offer safe spaces for anyone to talk through any issues at any time.

3. Suicidal Prevention 

This UCL page provides lots of useful resources to support the prevention of suicide. This includes information for yourself, or for someone else, experiencing suicidal thoughts. It also includes useful resources and training to support yourself and others.

4. Concern for another Student

UCL’s main page offers clear and helpful guidance on how and when to raise a concern over another students. This includes how to respond to someone in immediate danger, or if not, the ‘Student of Concern Form’ is included and information on any subsequent steps. 

5. Disability Support

UCL wants to ensure all students are supported in their learning and have access to their studies. The main page provides information for any disabled students, or students with a long-term health condition, at UCL. This includes information on the Disability, Mental Health and Wellbeing team, how to tell UCL about your disability, and the support you can receive. There is also information on how to fund and access your support, as well as information on accessibility in exams, the Sunflower Lanyard Scheme and other helpful resources.

6. Healthcare Information

The UCL main page provides lots of information and advice on how to support your physical health whilst studying.  For example, there is important information on how UCL is responding to COVID-19, as well as information on how to go about getting vaccinations (not just COVID-19 vaccines). There is also advice on how to register with a GP, including information on UCL’s partner GP: Ridgmount Practice.  

7. Reporting Misconduct:

UCL is committed to supporting anyone who has witnessed or experienced sexual misconduct, bullying, domestic violence, hate crime or harassment. This page offers advice on how to respond to immediate and non-urgent incidents on campus. Moreover, there is information on how to (anonymously) report incidents through ‘Report + Support’, or through the Students Union.

8. Mental Health and Wellbeing Support

This resource page is here to provide content which will help support and promote positive mental health and wellbeing through blogs, videos, apps, online programmes and books. This content includes supporting your mental health and your general wellbeing, an online library covering varying topics for self-help, digital resources and training programmes to improve your wellbeing and information on the support you can receive from external organisations and specific student groups

9. UCLcares

UCLcares is a space sharing inspiring and informative content on all areas of mental health and wellbeing. This page has lots that can be explored to support a positive wellbeing, including inspiring podcast stories from staff, students and alumni, information on UCL events and activities, practical advice on studying or managing finance, ideas to stay active, connect and volunteer. 

10. About the SSW team

The Student Support and Wellbeing team is made up of a team of experienced staff ready to offer support to all students at UCL. This main page shows you who makes up each team, and also includes links to each specific team. For example, the Disability, Mental Health and Wellbeing team, the Student Psychological and Counselling Services (SPCS) team, the Chaplaincy and Interfaith Advice team, the Study Abroad and International Student Support team and many more. Each page describes the responsibilities of each team and how you can get in touch.
