GameJam: Lumi/H5P tutorial

Transcript

Introduction to Lumi Editor for H5P

To start, go to lumi.education and download the desktop editor for your operating system.

When you open the editor, you have two options: open an existing project or create a new one. Let’s create a new project!
This opens the activity hub – a list of all available content templates. Core activities are pre-installed, but you can download additional templates from this hub page.
For this tutorial I have selected the Crossword.

No matter which activity you pick, all that you need to do is read the form carefully from top to bottom and add the text and media files that the activity requires. Tips and hints are available in case you get stuck.
With the template filled in, we can preview and test drive our activity on the View tab. Once you are happy that everything works, you can move to the next step.

Exporting to HTML

Open the FILE menu in the top left corner to save your project to your computer and then export it to HTML to share on a platform of your choice.
To make your game playable in the browser, you need to choose the ALL in One HTML format. You can choose to display license information and create an embed code if you wish. Leave the reporter tool switched off as it’s not applicable for the kind of activity we are building here.
There are other display options you can explore if you want to make your game page look extra-pretty. This requires some basic CSS knowledge and some tinkering that is beyond the scope of this overview.

Publishing your H5P

You are now ready to make your H5P page available to the world. Options are the game platform itch.io or you can create pages on code repositories, such as Codeberg or Github.
