Physiological testing of the police

Building on my previous experience at the institute of sports  exercise and health I helped out with a research project under the supervisor of lecturer Joe Warwick.  The study aimed to try and  understand the physiological  characteristics of working police officers to help predict how they may be suited to specific roles within the police. Initially we gained an insight into anthropometric measurements using the Tanita to explore participants body composition.  This was followed by a force plate analysis adopting the isometric mid thigh pull and the counter movement jump. This was to gain a detailed understanding of force profiles to understand their explosiveness. Subsequently V02 max testing was adopted to help determine there cardiovascular endurance  performance.  Working with Joe on this project was a pleasure as he helped me gain confidence throughout the testing days until by the end I had gained great competency in patient communication and my clinical skills.
