Moodboard

This icebreaker aims to help participants talk about their moods and feelings, either about their day so far or about the learnings and materials from a session that has just taken place.

Length

This activity is designed to be a quick 2 minute activity before or after a session (lecture, seminar, online class), with a longer 5-10 minute add-on option to facilitate deeper discussions.

This activity is good for…

  • Introducing the concept of ‘object icebreaker’ activities to participants – the instructions are not complicated and very intuitive to understand
  • Helping students talk about their mood and wellbeing
  • Assessing the general mood in the group of participants after a session or learning about a new concept

Running the activity

Shorter version

  • Let participants know that the activity aims to gauge their mood, and allow them a minute to look at the pictures
  • Flip to the next slide where participants can vote

Longer version

  • After voting, give participants 3-5 minutes to break off into groups and discuss why they chose their object

Online asynchronous adaption

  • Instead of asking participants to discuss in groups, set up a forum where participants can express how their chosen object represents how the feel in the moment/about the materials
