As the representative for the MSc Global Migration programme, I met with our cohort before the November meeting of the PGT SPC, the Postgraduate Taught Student Partnership Committee. Many students shared that after reading week they felt more comfortable with the curriculum and more confident navigating life at UCL, which was an encouraging shift.
We also discussed two points that stood out clearly. The first was a request for greater balance in the Geography seminar series. Recent sessions centred on physical geography, and the cohort felt that a seminar rooted in human geography would better match the focus of our programme. A session on migration, possibly with a guest speaker or a small panel, would allow students to engage more directly with the themes that drew them to Global Migration.
The second point concerned the wider department. Students expressed interest in having more opportunities to interact with peers across other programmes, since this could deepen academic conversations and strengthen the sense of community.
Additionally, I listened to the reflections shared by other student representatives, and it was encouraging to see many of our concerns align. The meeting felt constructive, and I will continue to make sure the views of our cohort remain part of the conversation moving forward.
