Ending the Semester with Collage and Reflection

In our final seminar for Interdisciplinary Approaches to Global Migration at UCL, we stepped away from traditional discussion formats and engaged in collage-making to reflect on the question, β€œWhere do we feel most safe?” This creative exercise encouraged us to think beyond academic frameworks and connect our learning to personal experiences, emotions, and everyday spaces within and beyond the university.

The collages revealed that safety is rarely a single location. For many of us, it was shaped by community, familiarity, and moments of belonging, often tied to shared spaces at UCL, friendships formed through the course, or routines that create stability in an otherwise uncertain world. Using visual expression helped surface perspectives that might not emerge through written or spoken reflection alone.

As a concluding session, this seminar captured the interdisciplinary spirit of the course and highlighted the importance of creative and reflective practices at UCL. It reminded us that understanding global migration also requires space for introspection, empathy, and connection, both within the classroom and across the wider university community.
