Reflect: Writing my cardiovascular blog improved my learning

EDUCATIONAL ADVANTAGES OF WRITING BLOGS

Educational blogs allow students to have a broader understanding of the topic they are presenting, by performing in-depth research and finding different approaches in presenting information. My blog gave me the ability to express my own opinions and perspectives. Being given the freedom to choose my topic of interest, motivated me to explore the topic in detail. Writing blogs encourages creativity, allowing formal use of social media and the opportunity to unravel our artistic and writing abilities.

EDUCATIONAL WRITING SHAPED BY LEARNING STYLE

My learning style has changed in a way that I started to focus on core elements of the material and not on the unnecessary details that would soon be forgotten. Writing for the general public requires extra efforts in explaining terms, which helped me self-evaluate my knowledge. I read articles of world-leading researchers which shaped by evaluation skills and broadened my knowledge. I developed skills in choosing reliable sources of information for my authentic work. I also learned how to evaluate and distinguish between contradictory studies, choosing the one with the most supporting evidence.

INNOVATIVE ASSESSMENT METHOD

I felt satisfied after creating my authentic blog and Youtube video. Blogs are good for our CVs in seekings future careers. I also gained skills in using programmes. such as circadapt, iMovie, etc. Avoiding the classical PowerPoint presentation, encouraged me to depict my knowledge gained in an authentic way. Writing blogs provokes the use of artistic skills in explaining the physiological processes within the body. It also allows the visualization of micro and macro elements within the human anatomy, by which students obtain a deeper understanding of the core material. Furthermore, through this type of format assessment, students might unravel their passion for educational writing and pursue such a future career.
