Hospital Rooms

“Ensuring all people in mental health services have access to extraordinary art”

Hospital Rooms was founded by artist Tim Shaw and curator Niamh White after a close friend was sectioned and admitted to a mental health hospital. They found these spaces cold and clinical for spaces that host people at their most vulnerable. They ran their first project commissioning world class artists to work with patients and staff to create artwork for the ward. This project received national press attention and shows the value art has for our mental wellbeing.

Hospital Rooms has since undertaken many projects in challenging mental health environments. Each project commissions a carefully selected artist to work closely with the patients and staff to create unique and site specific art.
