It’s been a while

Lots of things have happened since I last wrote here.

We have successfully launched 3 MSc’s and an MBA health. We are working on the online environment for an EMBA and a DBA and revamping Exec Ed. I have also just started a course on Responsible Innovation that is run by the Eng dept.

My main focus is now to develop a highly engaging online Moodle space and make sure it looks aesthetically pleasing too. Moodle 4.0 will come around which will help this but before then I need to do some work.

I think I will start towards my SFHEA whilst in Australia. Exploring what is needed. Ros said she will help me.

Case study one
Getting GBSH ready
Book chapter
Future proofing GBSH (EMBA/DBA)
Leadership Journey

No rush, I have applied for SLT at UCL East which would be an interesting move if it came into fruition.

Best,

Rejection doesn’t phase me as much anymore

The first time a grant of mine was rejected it hurt. Like stubbing your toe in the night, a sense of ‘ahh whatever’. Today I had two grants rejected in a day but I did not stub my toe. Instead of thinking they were wrong and stupid, I can now reflect on how to improve my writing.

I am less phased by issues now which makes life much less stressful. Instead of focusing on things, I can’t control I am starting to focus on those I can. Took 28 years. I am interested to see what I start learning with this new lens/attitude.

I need to start to look at SEDA and ALT again to get involved with some more projects. Threw my hat into the ring on the accessibility project and a UNESCO project too. I spoke to some PGCE’s teachers and realised you don’t need a PhD to teach. This is so awesome so I will see what exists out there.

Alls’ well.

Mini update

Extra curricular activities

Planned

  • Yuno

Potential

  • Plastic surgery work
  • NHS spinal work

MC has agreed to be my mentor which is great. Already had a very fruitful conversation with him. Maybe the long-term aim, teach at ARENA, and get a professional doctoral through research at UCL and the IoE. Something to further discuss.

Any whoo lots happening, lets see what unfolds.

The end of workshop 1

We have come to the end of workshop 1. 30 academics were introduced to Active Learning with only one leaving not knowing what it is. Overall very happy to see so many people including different learning types in their pedagogy. The next step of 121’s on Moodle is well underway. I should start to collect data on this too. Perhaps it is time to think of some questions.

Otherwise full steam ahead.

Submitted the grant application for the doco. I have compiled some information for the scripts. The learning environment looks good, looking forward to adding more to it over time. I think doctors from each country is a good place to start. Perhaps someone from the WHO?

Let’s see what happens.

Vitality returns!

A blog within a blog https://reflect.ucl.ac.uk/flslearningtech/2022/05/17/interactive-videos-using-h5p-new-bitesize-video-and-a-longer-one/

Feeling refreshed, will be applying for a grant to make a documentary.

Sleeping poorly but getting use to it!

Hope to return to normal circadian rhythm soon.

Best,

Vitality

My vitality has disappeared, exhausted to the bone. Need to work on something that is distracting. Thinking about building a space for teachers to come to, so to learn new things. Developing upon recess to create a learning environment.

Have qued up my first meeting with pharma to talk about the benefits of patient learning environments.

Hope to feel better soon.

More conferences

I will be presenting in some form or another at two conferences before Summer.

  • University of Hull ‘Personalised  Pedagogies: inclusive, empowering and progressive higher education for all’.
  • University of Brighton ‘International forum for Peer Learning and Peer Support’.
  • The European Conference on Education 2022

Looking forward to producing more case studies and presenting at futher confernces.

Acade’me’a.

I am 28 now, woke up with a vitality I had not experienced before. Maybe I will talk to my psychiatrist friend about this.

I’ve started a new project. It is called Recess. Recess is a mini lecture series where guest educationalists are invited to talk about a chosen topic for 15min. The bite size nature is aimed at allowing academics to quickly consume and slowly develop their pedagogy. Each lecture will have extra reading material.

I have booked in a few talks. Probably leave it to one a month. So I have interest until summer.

Also developing workshops to support all the academics at my new school. It will be great to be back in the classroom.
