A Pedagogy of Kindness in Action

What does it mean to practice a pedagogy of kindness? This keynote will introduce you to the three component parts of teaching with compassion: justice; believing students; and believing in students. You’ll learn practical ways to put kindness into action in your classroom, and ask questions about adapting these principles to your teaching style.

The New Power University:  Implications on academic practice, teaching and learning

In March 2021 Jonathan Grant published The New Power University that combined a critique of contemporary universities, a manifesto for the future and a provocation to stimulate change.  Using the framing of ‘new power’, he illustrates how a different purpose for universities is necessary, through the application of a new set of values that puts social responsibility at the core of the academic missions, allowing the university to become an advocate of the policies and political issues that matter to its community.  In this talk, Jonathan will review these arguments in the context of academic practice, teaching and learning.

Reimagining the university

With the sector changing considerably over the past couple of decades, what will the future university look like? This keynote will examine future models for the sector, looking at the place of the university within digital and connected communities, flexible modes of learning, the role of the academic and the place of the student. Together we will question what a university is for to reimagine and rebuild a new kind of university.
