Links

What are Links?

Links widgets are used to provide links to other websites and resources.

The most common type (category) of link widget you’ll hear mentioned is a blogroll.  A blogroll was originally used by bloggers to provide a list of links to their favourite bloggers.  Nowadays the term blogroll refers to any list of links that appear in the sidebar of a site.

You can create your own categories for links widgets, just add new categories to sort your links into and use the “links widget” to make them appear in your sidebar.

Let’s start with the basics!

When building your blog, you will normally use the following functionalities regarding links:

  1. Add and configure your links (open in a new tab): create your own categories to sort out added links to widgets.
  2. Create a social links menu (open in new tab): some themes allow for social media links to be added, but when they don’t, you can always create a “social media” category and add a normal “links widget” to your sidebar.
